Description
An educational game to learn the location of notes on the fretboard of the guitar and other stringed instruments. Eleven instruments are available, including bass (4/5/6 strings), mandolin, ukulele and banjo. You are presented with a random note on the fretboard, and are offered a variety of choices for the correct answer. Just pick the button corresponding to the correct choice to score a hit! The new staff training mode also helps you learn the position of notes on the musical staff on the fretboard of your instrument. As your score gets better and you manage to identify notes faster across the entire fretboard, your working knowledge of the instrument increases! Game mode provides a fun way to make progress. Work your way through levels of increasing difficulty and compete with your friends! WHAT ARTISTS SAY ABOUT THE APP “ Learning the notes on the fretboard is key to any guitarist's development on the instrument, and [Fretuoso] is a neat way to get that info burned into your brain without having to carry a guitar with you everywhere you go. Pretty cool! ” -- Bryan Beller (Dethklok, Steve Vai, Mike Keneally) “ This is one of the best apps I've seen in a while. It's simple, fun and educational. Very useful for guitar players as a lot of [them] tend to play by ear and not care much about knowing the fretboard. ” -- Rick Musallam (Mike Keneally, Gryphon Labs) FEATURES - Train your ear while improving your working knowledge of the instrument. - Learn the position of notes on the musical staff; say goodbye to tabs! - Ten different beautiful, realistic-looking instruments! Includes 4 guitars, 3 basses, mandolin, ukulele and banjo. - Focus your training on particular parts of the fretboard: any range of frets, any subset of the strings. - Many common tunings are built in, but custom tunings can also be created. - Visualize your progress on the fretboard; statistics are kept for every fret. - Smart Learning Engine: the app automatically focuses on sections of the fretboard where you are weaker. - Integration with Game Center, Twitter and Facebook: compete with your friends and share your progress! - Left-handed mode is available. This version comes with free access to a limited subset of each of the available instruments. Each of the instruments can be fully unlocked via in-app purchase.

Great app! I highly suggest upgrading to your instrument for a couple of dollars. It’s simple and great for practicing in situations like riding a bus or someplace where you can’t play. I also love the leaderboard feature! It pushes you to do more! I would recommend this to anyone. Score 8.6/10

Another update: App back to being “mostly great”... can’t turn off sounding the notes. Everything else is fixed. ————————————- Update: now neither app will open (only goes to gray screen and then hangs until it times out and returns to my desktop). It feels like it may have something to do with trying to sync with the cloud and then crashes. I did use this app every day. Now I can’t get it to run. I am on an iPad Pro 11.0 w/256 G memory and LOTS of available storage and latest iOS. —————————- I owned both apps and purchased “all” instruments on both apps ($14). Now, it appears, I only need one of the apps to have on my iPad so after updating today, every time I open either app I have to reset the “restore purchases”... I’m sure this is just a glitch that needs to be corrected. I only rated the app one star so the developer will be sure to see it. When this is corrected I will again rate it 5 stars and remove this review. Thanks!

Sadly, this program doesn’t well for baritone ukulele. Yes, you can select ukulele for your instrument, and select baritone tuning, but the instrument you see does not have enough frets. The ukulele that you see in the training has 12 frets between the nut and where the neck joins the body. But on a baritone uke, it’s typically the 15th fret where the neck joints the body. You want to train your mind that at the 12th fret the notes are DGBE. But you do NOT want to train your mind to “see” this pattern in the wrong place, in relation to the body of the instrument. Any chance of adding a separate instrument for baritone ukulele? Or perhaps a feature where you could specify the number of frets?

This app is okay. It would be nice to have it in landscape, but the notes do not rotate so it it too hard to use in that orientation. This app is plagued with ads. Very so many interactions an ad will pop up. When you make a certain number of navigations an ad pops up. In a span of about 30 seconds I have 3 different ads pop up. It is annoying because you have to sit and watch them for a minimum period of time. I do not believe I would recommend this app.

Can you fix the game exiting arbitrarily? I’m using the 8 string guitar and very frequently, without any particular patter of usage, the game exits! Other than that, I love this app! And you’ll love it too!
